Don't you hate it when...

...You have to be somewhere (like work) by a certain time, you are already late and have dripping wet hair. No problem right, that's what a blow dryer is for - except for when you go to turn it on and all you get is "click". Half a dozen clicks later, you come to terms with the fact that it is beyond dead and begin to panic.

So what did I do? Turned up the AC and tried to get some of my hair dry over the vent in our bedroom. Then I flat-ironed the heck out of it in an attempt to steam it dry. I have A LOT of thick hair, so this took FOREVER.

The result? Weirdly enough - poofy hair, even though I used my flat iron spray and leave-in conditioner AND anti-frizz serum. It just felt fluffy and I had fly-aways ALL day long. Gross. It was a bad hair day for sure!

The positive? I have wanted to buy an ionic hair dryer for a long time and finally got one on the way home work. They aren't as expensive as when they first came on the market, so that was a plus. I can hear it as I type this because like most of my new things, I have a 14 year old who always manages to "test" them out before I can have a chance to even think about using it. Just like my new nail polish I bought yesterday - she already had it on before I even removed my old polish (BTW, I love this new color - tune in to my Friday FIVE cause it will get an honorable mention).

Other than big hair, it was a good day.

Right Now

My head is going to explode. Hallie is sitting in the family room banging on the fisher price xylophone, singing a song she is making up as she goes along. In fact, she just told herself, "That was a wonderful song, let's sing another." I have no idea who she's talking to - she's the only one in there.

Audrey for the moment is quiet, but only because 2 minutes ago she was screaming and I stuck a binki in her mouth. She is tired and ornery since she woke up at 3am this morning and would NOT go back to sleep. I finally brought her downstairs and we watched 27 Dresses at about 4am. I am so exhausted I am ready to pass out.

Dallin is a half hour late coming home from his friend's house and will be in a bit of trouble when he finally shows up. He just can't grasp the concept of coming home on time. And then he's so upset when there are consequences!

Kesley went to 7-11 with some friends to buy slurpees. She actually cleaned her room today, which means the earth must have fallen off it's axis.

And now Scott is home from work and the girls are going nuts cause daddy is here. They just about explode when the garage door goes up.

So, here I am, counting down the minutes until the girl's bedtime and hoping I can finally get in a shower today. Yeah, it was one of THOSE days.

Frustration

I am so completely overwhlemed right now. I have a lot on my plate and last night my mom in her oh so lovely way added another heaping spoonful of guilt. Scott says I should just consider the source and forget it, but she is my mother and I hate it that she thinks I don't appreciate her. I try SO hard to make sure she knows I am grateful that she watches my kids two afternoons a month. She's mad because she feels like all she does is "give, give, give" (her words, not mine) and she get's nothing from us in return. I just feel so bad. I'm not sure what she wants me to do. I always say thank you and we have her over for dinner and try to include her in everything we do. She wants me to take her to the airport next week, but I can't - I have to work and can't take time off right now. I am picking her up the following week, but that doesn't count apparently. She also wants Scott to mow her lawn, which just isn't fair to ask of him. He's working 6 days a week right now - 10+ hours on weekdays and until late Saturday afternoon. He can hardly keep up with our yard and she is acting like he just won't help her. I just feel like she only helps me if there is something in it for her, otherwise forget it. I just wish she'd watch the kids because she loves me and loves them. It really doesn't feel that way. In fact, now she says she wants to move to St George, but can't because I need her (then why did you already buy a lot to build on here?). I do need her, I need her to stop acting like a 2-year old and get some help. She is not coping well with my dad's death, but it's been 2+ years now. She is so negative, my kids don't even want her to tend them. I've got to figure out some other options. It just isn't worth ruining my relationship with my mom.
Last night's phone call with her was so frustrating, it made me cry. I miss my dad and I feel like not only did I lose him, but I lost a big part of my mom too. I just don't know what to do.

Our house - The infirmary

So this week really hasn't improved a whole lot. Hallie is still hacking up a storm and Audrey, although she tried to get out of Hallie's way, has caught it with a vengeance. Sad thing it, she's so little, I can't give her any cold medicine. Her little nose just runs and is getting red and sore. Yesterday afternoon I gave her a warm bath. We have a sponge thing she can lay on (or usually sits on so she won't slip-slide all over the tub). She laid on it while I poured warm water over her belly for 20 minutes. I had to add more water to keep it from getting cold. She was so relaxed that her eyes closed and she just kept sighing like it felt so good. She was about asleep - it was so cute.

Later Hallie fell asleep in front of the TV while watching Lion King. She's so congested and was snoring so loud, I had to turn the TV up so Audrey could hear the movie. Then Dallin came home yesterday complaining he didn't feel good either. At least he's older, but he still whines! By the time Scott got home I was so at my limit - I took a 30 minute shower and regrouped so I could face the evening and night. Audrey only woke up 4 times and actually slept from 2am until 7:30 am. I really needed that good stretch of sleep!

I haven't been to work since last week and haven't been out of the house since Monday. I haven't done my hair for 3 days either. Can you say stir crazy!!! I have cleaned up puke, crap and snot that would make even the most stalwart cry like a baby (don't you just want to rush over and visit me?). My house is a disaster. Hopefully this afternoon I can put children down and find some sort of organization to this chaos. These are the times of motherhood that you just hang on for dear life and hope it gets better soon. :)

How I feel...
